The Fulton Life Enrichment Foundation, Inc. was initially established in 2006 as a 501 c3 not for profit corporation to provide support to the Fulton County Department of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities & Addictive Diseases in the areas of outreach, advocacy and fundraising.
 
The mission was to greatly expand behavioral health services for economically disadvantaged youth at the Fulton County Oak Hill Child, Adolescent & Family Center, and increase access to care.  Likewise, the Foundation also recognized the need for expanded literacy, workforce development, and life skills programs for mothers with behavioral health disorders who were enrolled in the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) Women's Health Initiative.  This federally funded grant program replaced what was known as welfare and provides families with both financial assistance and work opportunities.
 
Recently, the Fulton Life Enrichment Foundation is completing a stratgeic plan, and has identifed its mission and vision as follows:
 
MISSION STATEMENT
  • To support children and youth health programs in Fulton County, Georgia through fundraising and public education.
 
VISION
  • To enrich the lives of children and youth in Fulton County, Georgia

The primary focus of the Fulton Life Enrichment Foundation, Inc. consists of the following:

  • Fundraising
  • Community awareness
  • Advocacy


In additon to supporting the Fulton County Oak Hill Child, Adolescent & Family Center, the Foundation also is committed to the Fulton County Clubhouse for Youth.

This is a state-of-the-art facility that offers high-quality and culturally competent behavioral health care services designed to help children and adolescents (age 0 to 21 years old) achieve & maintain independence and stability so they can play a more productive role within their families, schools, and communities. FULTON COUNTY CLUBHOUSE FOR YOUTH

Opened in 2011, this facility is a place where teens (ages 14 thru 17) can spend their out of school time learning the tools to keep them safe and drug free.  It is located in a neighborhood setting that fosters pride in the community.
 
Services are offered in a group setting and include substance abuse prevention education, behavioral health psycho-education, life skills, and daily living skills (cokking, budgeting, etc).  Activities include: sports, video games, pool table, foosball, and other activities to encourage and develop healthy interests other than substance abuse.  Youth have access to a computer lab, homework assistance (tutors), GED/college preparation, and customized employment preparation.  Parents are welcome to participate in field trips, community service projects and monthly family dinners. 
 
 
The Fulton Life Enrichment Foundation, Inc. accepts the following forms of charitable contributions:

As part of its mission, 96% of all donations will support the mission of the organization, and only 4% will support administrative costs.

THE NEED FOR THE FULTON LIFE ENRICHMENT FOUNDATION, INC.

In the State of Georgia:

  • Nearly a half-million adults and over 111,000 children live with serious mental illness
  • Over half of all students age 14  and older living with serious mental health issues and receive special education services drops out of high school
  • Nearly three (3) people each day commit suicide, which is nearly always the result of untreated or under-treated mental illness.  Suicide is the third leading cause of death among youth and young adults between 15 - 24 years old.
  • More teens and young adults die from suicide than cancer, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, birth defects, stroke & chronic lung disease combined.
  • Georgia’s public mental health system provides services to only 21% of adults who live with serious mental illness
  •  Georgia spent just $61 per capita on mental health agency services in 2006, or $565 million.  This was just 1.7 percent of total state spending that year.
  • In 2006, 2631 children were incarcerated in Georgia’s juvenile justice system.  Nationally, approximately 70 percent of youth in juvenile justice systems experience mental health disorders, with 20 percent experiencing a severe mental health condition
