What is BreasTest & More?
|
Breast cancer is the leading cancer among women in Georgia and the second leading cause of cancer death. The BreasTest & More Program can provide eligible Women with a pap smear, breast exam, breast education, and a mammogram at no cost. The number of deaths due to breast cancer can be reduced when it is diagnosed early. More than 75 percent of women over age 40 in State's Georgia have had a mammogram in the last two years. While this exceeds the Healthy People 2010 objective of 70 percent of women having mammograms, it is important for all women to have regular mammograms.
If detected early, most women survive breast cancer and go on to lead productive lives. Women age 40 and older need to have a screening mammogram every year and should continue to do so for as long as they are in good health.
Contact your doctor or healthcare provider and schedule a clinical breast examination today if you’re over 40, or encourage a loved one or friend to set one up. If you lack insurance and have low-income, you may be eligible for a low or no cost mammogram. Contact the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness at (404) 730-1637 or (404) 730-1640 and ask for the BreasTEST & MORE coordinator, or call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 to find a BreasTEST & MORE program near you, or visit: http://health.state.ga.us/programs/cancer/csp.asp.
