FRIENDS OF SANDY SPRINGS LIBRARY BOOKSTORE NOW OPEN

The Friends of Sandy Springs Library (FOSSL) are delighted to announce the opening of the Friends Bookstore. The bookstore is located within the browsing room of the Sandy Springs library at 395 Mount Vernon Highway Northeast, Atlanta. The bookstore has been a dream of the Friends organization at the library for many years and was made possible with the help of the Sandy Springs library staff who relocated numerous magazine, CD and DVD shelves, as well as reduced the number of VHS tapes on display to make space available.

The bookstore has almost 400 square feet of floor space and provides shelf display for over 3,800 books. Nearly new and gently used books, donated by the community, are resold through the bookstore with prices generally from $.50 to $6.00. All proceeds benefit the Sandy Springs Library and fund children’s programs, book purchases for the library and provide for non-budgeted items such as reupholstering of the chairs throughout the library.

The library is located 395 Mount Vernon Highway Northeast. The store is currently open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm and Sunday 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

The Friends group is looking for additional volunteers to staff the store additional hours. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Janet Greene at 770-390-9418 or email her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . In addition, we encourage the donation of books, particularly fiction and children’s titles which are always in great demand.

SANDY SPRINGS READING GARDEN DEDICATED THIS SPRING

On Sunday, April 18, Commissioner Lowe joined dozens of Sandy Springs residents for the dedication of the new Reading Garden at the Sandy Springs Library.

Adjacent to the east side of the library, this tranquil Reading Garden was developed on land generously donated to the library by the Sandy Springs Women’s Club. The improvements were made possible by a host of community efforts under the direction of Art Sandy Springs.

The ceremony included performances by the Franklin Pond Bach and Roll String Quartet and Ridgeview Middle School Chorus.

The Reading Garden also features an international peace pole and classically-designed labyrinth. The Sandy Springs Library is located at 395 Mt. Vernon Highway, Atlanta, GA 30328. For information, please call 404-303-6130.
