Duties Of The Solicitor General |

THE SOLICITOR GENERAL'S OFFICE:
- Prosecutes misdemeanor cases and violations of the county code in state and magistrate court.
Â
- Handles misdemeanor charges such as simple battery, simple assault, stalking, driving under the influence, shoplifting, and criminal trespass.
Â
- Conducts bench trials, jury trials, and hearings in state court and represents the State in appellant matters.
Â
- Negotiates pleas.
Â
- Provides information, resources and support to victims of crime.
Â
- May recommend a sentence of up to twelve months in jail, up to $1,000 in fines, misdemeanors and/or probation ($5,000 for High and Aggravated).
Â
- May refer approriate cases to Pretrial Intervention or Diversion Programs.
Â
- May investigate charges, meet with the arresting officer and interview witnesses to prepare for court.
Â
- Prosecutes cases bound over from Municipal Courts.
Â
- Handles administrative hearings for welfare fraud and child abandonment cases
