Senior Transportation and Services Survey Results

The Fulton County Housing and Human Services Department, Office of Aging conducted a transportation services Multipurpose Center Survey to assess the satisfaction of users regarding performance and services.   Based on the direction of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, the external evaluation was conducted by The Kennesaw State University A.L. Burruss Institute of Public Service and Research in December 2012.

The purpose of the transportation survey was to determine how many seniors used the services as a primary method of presentation, types of trips services were used for, as well as the level of customer satisfaction with the services provided. The purpose of the Multipurpose center surveys was to determine which centers were used most by seniors, as well as to determine satisfaction levels with different aspects of the centers.  Questions asked to determine user satisfaction included topicsj such as the staff, activities, programs, special events, cleanliness, space, safety, hours of operation and quality of food service.

Paper-and-pencil mail surveys were constructed by the Burruss Institute in conjunction with Office of Aging staff.  Random samples were drawn from the population of participants who had registered with each of the services (multipurpose centers (12,226), MV Transportation (4,432), and DARTS (2,528)). Six-thousand (6,000) surveys were mailed to seniors who attend Multipurpose Centers; 1,000 surveys were mailed to seniors who use Dial-A-Ride Transportation System (DARTS) services; and 1,000 surveys were mailed to seniors who use MV Transportation services. A pre-addressed postage paid return envelope was enclosed for ease in responding.

Three hundred and three (303) DARTS surveys were returned completed for a response rate of 30%. Two hundred thirty-two (232) MV Transportation surveys were returned for a response rate of 23%. The multipurpose center survey was returned completed by 2,163 respondents for a response rate of 36%, which far exceeded the average response rate of 10%.
