Fulton County Kicks Off "Tour de 29" | Print |

Fulton County residents are invited to participate in the sixth annual “Tour de 29” festival, celebrating life along one of Fulton County’s oldest thoroughfares.

The two-month festival will take place during September and October. It was coordinated by Fulton County Department of Arts and Culture in collaboration with the cities of College Park, East Point, Fairburn, Palmetto, Union City, Hapeville, and Chattahoochee Hill Country, along with South Fulton businesses and community organizations.

The kick-off event for “Tour de 29” will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Michon’s Restaurant (1583 Virginia Avenue, College Park, GA 30337) from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tour de 29  was initiated by Fulton County Commission Vice Chairman William “Bill” Edwards in 2005.

Highway 29 is also known as Lee Street in the city of Atlanta; Main Street in East Point, College Park and Palmetto; Roosevelt Highway in Union City; and West Broad Street in Fairburn. The highway became known as “Roosevelt Highway” after President Franklin D. Roosevelt regularly traveled down the road to his part-time home in Warm Springs.

Many of the “Tour de 29” activities are free. Click here for a full list of the “Tour de 29” events or log on to www.fultonarts.org. Residents can also contact the Fulton County Department of Arts and Culture at
