The Fulton County Department of Human Services Office of Workforce Development hosted a closing ceremony to honor 243 young people hired using $758,436 in stimulus money awarded to Fulton County by the State of Georgia. The August ceremony was held at the Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library’s Central Library at One Margaret Mitchell Square in Atlanta.
The summer youth employment funding was a part of a $3.3 million grant awarded to the State from the 2010 TANF/ARRA (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families/American Recovery and Reinvestment Act).
Each of the participants received a certificate acknowledging the work experience gained during the eight-week summer employment program. The program provided teens between 14-18 years old the opportunity to gain valuable work experience to enhance their chances of future success in the workplace. They worked up to 35 hours a week for $8.50 an hour.
The Office of Workforce Development required the young people to complete job readiness training before beginning the work experience program.
