September education program a part of national observance of Ovarian Cancer and Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
Fulton County’s Neighborhood Union Health Center physicians and staff wants citizens to be aware that Prostate Cancer and Ovarian Cancer are important health conditions for the residents of Fulton County.  Both cancers are the focus of education campaigns by the Department of Health Services.
Prostate Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in Fulton County, and is second only to lung cancer in the number of cancer deaths. Men, who are at greater risk of suffering from Prostate Cancer are 50 years or older, African American or have a close relative such as a father, brother or son who has had prostate cancer.
Citizens can hear more about Prostate Cancer from a Neighborhood Union physician on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at 10:00 am. Display tables are also available with information to educate patients and their families on the value of early cancer detection and its value in prolonging or saving lives.
Ovarian Cancer causes more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system; however, when ovarian cancer is found in its early stages, survival times are longer. .
Residents can visit the Neighborhood Union Health Center on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, to hear a presentation on Ovarian Cancer symptoms, detection and treatment from the Women’s Health Division of the Department of Health Services. Presentations will be made at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
