Fulton County Housing and Human Services, Office of Aging will host a State of Seniors Symposium to hear from Seniors about their needs to age in place, and to remain healthy, vibrant and safe.¬†¬† The symposium will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 10:00 a.m until 12:00 p.m. at the Harriett G. Darnell Senior Multipurpose Facility located at 677 Fairburn Road.
¬†The Symposium follows a State of Seniors Survey conducted in April and May by Fulton County in collaboration with the A. L. Burrus Institute for Public Service and Research at Kennesaw State University.
Fulton County Office of Aging Program Manager Sarah Hilton will moderate a panel discussion on the needs and status of Fulton County‚Äôs Older Adults.¬† Panel discussion presenters include Pamela Roshell, the Georgia State Director of AARP (American Association of Retired Persons), Laura Keyes, Senior Principal Program Specialist for the Atlanta Regional Commission and Diane Williamson, Director of the Council on Aging.¬† Several Senior Advocates will also be present to speak to the needs and status of Seniors in Fulton County.
The 2010 Census data has confirmed that the number of persons in Fulton County over 55 years of age has doubled since the 2000 Census. The Symposium will not only deal with the implications of these findings for the County but also for the general community.
