Wolf Creek Amphitheater Hosts V103 First Annual Gospel Fest | Print |

The Wolf Creek Amphitheater presents the V103 First Annual Gospel Fest featuring Mary Mary, the ground breaking sister duo in concert on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 3:00 p.m.  The three-time Grammy Award winning group will kick-off the afternoon concert singing many of their chart topping hits.   

Mary Mary, siblings born Erica Campbell and Tina Campbell, broke through on the Gospel circuit in 2000 with their pioneering crossover hit “Shackles (Praise You).” The duo makes music to spread the good news of the world and to inspire and uplift people of all generations.

Gospel and three-time Gospel Choice Award winner Canton Jones will open up the show to begin an afternoon of spirit-filled music.  Jones’ songs “Love Song” and “Stay Saved” have brought him to the attention of music greats and has landed him on stage with Gospel powerhouses such as: Kirk Franklin, Smokie Norful, Dr. Bobby Jones and Kiki Clark-Sheard. 

Songwriter and amazing singer William Murphy will be featured at the Gospel Fest as well. Murphy’s smash hit “Praise is What I Do” was on the Shekinah Glory Ministries’ 2002 gold selling album.  He is known as one of the brightest lights and anointed voices in contemporary praise & worship music. Murphy’s makes music that crosses all lines of ages, creed and color.  He has his own label and the release of his debut album “The Sound” has pushed him to the forefront of contemporary gospel.

The V103 Annual Gospel Fest will be held at Wolf Creek Amphitheater on a yearly basis.
This year’s concert is significantly special because it honors V103’s “Sunday Morning Praise,” radio show host Larry Tinsley.  Tinsley is being recognized for 25 years of service as one of the top gospel music radio announcers in the industry.

Wolf Creek Amphitheater is located at 3025 Merk Road, Atlanta, GA 30349. Patrons may enter the venue from the Enon Road entrance as well.  Guests are allowed to bring their own food and drinks however, NO alcoholic beverages are allowed.  Parking at the venue is only $10.00.

 About the Performers Below: (from their bios)

 Mary Mary – the sister duo has won two American Music Awards, an NAACP Image Award and BET Award for their fresh and innovative Gospel music.  One of their most recently released singles “Walking” after only nine weeks on the radio marched its way in the top 10 Urban AC and is steadily moving.  Additionally, the group’s tune “God in Me,” release in 2009 was a R&B hip-hop crossover hit.  Mary Mary has collaborated with talented writers to produce a sound that is R&B, hip-hop, dance, pop, gospel and jazz.  Born in Inglewood, CA to an evangelist/choir director mother and youth minister father, sisters Erica and Tina Atkins and their six other siblings grew up singing in church choirs.  After a stint studying vocal performance at local

El Camino College, Erica and Tina joined the lineup of traveling gospel shows and toured as backup singers for several R&B acts.  Three years later, songwriter /producer Warryn Campbell played a pivotal role in the sisters’ career, helping them secure a song publishing deal with EMI. 

Mary Mary’s debut album “Thankful” after going platinum won them a Grammy.  This was mainly due to the broad success of its first single, “Shackles (praise YOU).” The duo’s music has had mainstream success some of those songs are: “The Real Party,” and “God In Me.”

Canton Jones – grew up Deerfield Beach, Florida.  The singer, songwriter, produce, vocal arranger and entrepreneur has performed in front of millions of people during his career as a music artist.  He has sold hundreds of thousands of albums and has several songs in regular rotation in the U.S. and abroad. In rotation has been the steppers groove “Love Song,” “Stay Saved” and the uncompromising street anthem “The Password.”  Jones has received Grammy and Stellar Award nominations for his work and has received three Gospel Choice Awards for his music.  

William Murphy – is known for his gospel smash hit “Praise is What I Do” the title track from Shekinah Glory Ministries’ 2002 gold-selling album.  He has released his own label with his debut album “The Sound”.  Murphy possesses a voice that is nothing short of stunning, in range and dynamics.  His music has influences from modern gospel, urban, R&B, rock and pop all pulled together.  Murphy was given a solid foundation in both the church and music.  His father and grandfather were both musically gifted ministers and elders within the church.  

His first recognition of a worship leader came when he met Bishop Paul S. Morton, the International Presiding Bishop at a national convention of the Full Gospel Baptist Church. Murphy was asked to record a song for the album released from that conference.

 Larry Tinsley – is the host of “Sunday Morning Praise,” heard every Sunday on WVEE-FM - WAOK AM in Atlanta and WBAV-FM in Charlotte, NC.  He was born in Decaturville, Tennessee on February 14.  At the age of five years old he moved to Knoxville, Tennessee and received his diploma from Riverside High School in Parson.  He is a graduate of Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee. His first job was an on-air announcer for WJBE radio which was owned by legendary soul singer James Brown.  Tinsley is regarded as one of American’s top gospel announcers and he has received the coveted Stellar Award as “Gospel Announcer of the Year” in 1997.
