Work Begins March 24 on Phase III of Alpharetta Water Transmission Main Project | Print |

On March 24, the Fulton County Department of Water Resources will begin work on the third phase of the Alpharetta Water Transmission Main project. 

Starting Monday, March 24, 2014, from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. the following morning, crews will begin installing of 200 linear feet of pipe, between Academy Street and Milton Avenue, crossing State Road 9.  It is expected that this segment will be completed within three weeks. There will be no interruption of water service and minimal traffic impact is expected.

 

The Transmission Main project involves the installation of approximately 7 miles of water mains and ancillaries in the cities of Alpharetta and Johns Creek to improve the water system supply and pressure in North Fulton County.  This will improve operations the northwestern portion of Fulton County. 

Phase III – Installation in Four Segments
Fulton County Water Resources is currently in the third phase of this project. Phase III involves the installation of approximately 2,700 linear feet of 30-inch ductile pipe.  The pipe will be installed in four segments:

 

  • Segment #1 – State Route 9 crossing (installation of 200 linear feet. of pipe, between Academy Street and Milton Avenue), starting March 24, 2014;
  • Segment # 2 – Installation of approximately 900 linear feet along Academy Street, (between the intersections of Haynes Bridge Road & Academy Street, State Road 9 & Academy Street), scheduled to start in fall 2014;
  • Segment # 3 – Installation of approximately 800 linear feet, along a section of Milton Avenue & Old Canton Street (between the intersections of State Road 9 & Milton Avenue, Old Canton Street & Canton Street, scheduled to start in fall 2014; and,
  • Segment #4 – Installation of approximately 800 linear feet along Canton Street (between the intersections of Old Canton Street & Canton Street, Mayfield Road & Canton Street), scheduled for summer 2015.

Fulton County is coordinating work activities with the City of Alpharetta to coincide with Alpharetta’s downtown construction.
