Mrs. Harriett G. Darnell, for whom the Harriett G. Darnell Senior Multipurpose Facility is named, was a pioneer in the development of services for Fulton County senior citizens and their families. In the 1960́s, Mrs. Darnell developed some of the first programs designed to target seniors who were isolated from the community because of income, health, or transportation, and she was often the only link between seniors and social services agencies. The Darnell Senior Multipurpose Facility continues to operate in the same spirit that motivated its namesake, “striving to help enrich the minds, bodies, and spirits of Fulton County seniors.”  For more information about the history behind the Harriett G. Darnell Senior Multipurpose facility, call the office of Commissioner Emma I. Darnell at (404) 612-8222alt.

The facility is one of four county-operated senior multipurpose facilities that include Dorothy C. Benson, HJC Bowden, and Helene S. Mills. For more information about other facilities that serve seniors, call the STARline at (404) 613-6000alt.
