ABOVE:  The Fulton County Board of Commissioners presents employees in the Fulton County Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities with a proclamation recognizing May 2012 as National Mental Health Month.  Dr. Sultan Simms, Medical Director, holds the official proclamation.

May is Mental Health Month 2012, and Mental Health America (www.nmha.org) is celebrating Mental Health Month, which began in 1949 to raise awareness of mental health conditions and mental wellness for all.  This year, Mental Health America is addressing these important issues with a theme focused on an essential component of maintaining and protecting mental health and wellness:  social connectedness.

The tagline for this year's observance is "Get Connected".  There are many ways of creating connections that support mental health:

  • Get connected to family and friends to feel close and supported.
  • Get connected to your community to feel a sense of belonging & purpose.
  • Get connected to professional help to feel better when you're stressed and having trouble coping.

The Fulton County Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities will have a schedule of special activities for May 2012, which is Mental Health Month.  Please visit this website to learn about upcoming events.
