You can participate in a stream cleanup either by joining an effort organized by another group or by organizing your own event. Fulton County will help you get involved in this type of waterway protection and provide you with the supplies and support you need for a successful event.
Clean ups can be conducted any time of year, but the optimum time is spring and early fall, due to decreased insect and wildlife activity and less vegetative growth along the stream banks.
Each year the statewide organization Rivers Alive offers extra support for Georgia citizens organizing clean ups in the month of October. All cleanup organizers are encouraged to register their events by July 31st of each year to receive the most support from Rivers Alive.Â
Another organization that offers support for cleanup organizers year round is the National River Cleanup initiative of American Rivers.Â
