The Fulton County Department of Health Services has partnered with the Green Restaurant Association (GRA) and launched a Green Restaurant program. The certification program which promotes sustainable practices is voluntary and open to Fulton County’s 4,700 restaurants. Food service establishments that implement sustainable practices which meet Fulton County’s and the GRA’s environmental requirements related to energy, water, waste, disposables, chemical and pollution reduction and sustainable foods will receive a 2, 3 or 4 Star Certified Green Restaurant® rating. Fulton County Health Services and the GRA web listing and a Fulton County issued Green Restaurant permit will also be granted to restaurateurs achieving green certification.
According to the National Restaurant Association, the restaurant industry is the second largest private-sector employer in the country. Current food service industry interest and County outreach has put the County on track to surpass its benchmark of 25 Certified Green Restaurant® by Earth Day 2012 and receive Green Dining Destination™ by December 2012.
