is Solicitor General of Fulton County. The Solicitor Generalâ€™s office prosecutes misdemeanors such as simple battery, stalking, driving under the influence and criminal trespass. Under Smithâ€™s leadership, the office handles approximately 20,000 cases in State and Magistrate Courts. She manages a staff of 100 temporary and part-time employees. The office has an average annual budget of $6 million.
Smith was elected Solicitor General in 1996 and was re-elected in 2000 and 2004. She was an Assistant Solicitor in the Fulton County Solicitor Generalâ€™s office in the late 1980s before she joined a small litigation firm, Dwyer and White, formerly known as Weiner, Dwyer and Yancey. In 1991, Smith was appointed a Special Assistant Attorney General, litigating cases on behalf of the Department of Transportation.
Smith is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville, TN and New York University School of Law.
