Chief Legal Assistant – Records Unit

Keehlan Haygood

Keehlan Haygood is the Chief Legal Assistant overseeing the Records Unit. He has four years of legal experience with the Records Room Unit at the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.

Keehlan was born on November 20, 1989, in Atlanta, Georgia. Born into not just a family, but a village that takes the old African Proverb very seriously; "It takes an entire village to raise a child." He began attending school at an early age and has been striving for excellence ever since. From the age of six through fourteen, he attended the Warren Memorial Boys and Girls Club where he was a member of multiple sports teams throughout the facility. In high school, he came to the realization that what his village (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins) were telling him his whole life was indeed true. A college education is the only thing that would give him a solid foundation for success in life. He received a partial Band Scholarship to attend the Great Bethune Cookman University and become a member of the Marching Wildcats. He then decided to take his talents to Daytona Beach, Florida to attend school.

During his 4 years of undergraduate studies, he was able to join a variety of organizations within the Institution. He was inducted into Alpha Phi Sigma Criminal Justice Honor Society and became a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International. He also joined Alpha Phi Alpham, Inc., mentoring initiative in spring 2012. During this time he was a new initiate into the Delta Beta chapter. Through this mentoring program, he learned what community, grit, punctuality, and dedication meant. The mentoring program was a strong commitment that continuously displayed organizational skills, taking initiative, being assertive and creative. During the time spent in undergrad, Keehlan created two initiatives that signed several members of the community up for voting and created the first day of school initiative that allowed over 200 men in the community a chance to welcome students back to schools. These initiatives were just a small fraction of what leadership capabilities Keehlan has. His ability to work in conjunction with others is outstanding. Keehlan has also been an Ombudsman in the NANBPWC, Inc., Organization for over 10 years.

Keehlan has a uniformly positive demeanor and is open and curious. Mr. Haygood has a history of excelling beyond expectations in all leaderships roles because of his attention to detail and his commitment to ensuring the development of himself and his colleagues/teammates. He will ask questions, voice his perspectives, and has the intellectual rigor necessary to unpack ideas and examine assumptions (both his own and those of others). He has a positive aura that is refreshing and engaging, but also can ask critical questions and pursue difficult topics in diplomatic but firm ways. Keehlan has a rare blend of qualities that allows him to contribute to difficult discussions, while always coming from a place of positivity and this is because he is grounded by a clear sense of ethics and guiding principles. His intangibles as a servant leader, innovative thinker, and dedicated doer will serve any organization and all members of justly.

Keehlan is a true believer that with hard work, patience, and staying focused, you can become anything that you wish to be. His parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins have all had a big influence on his life and he can proudly say that he is a product of the saying, “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child.”
