Assistant Chief Trina Swanson-Lucas is a highly accomplished criminal justice professional with over 30 years of extensive experience in criminal investigations and security operations. Currently serving as the Assistant Chief Investigator in the Trial Division, Trina brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in managing complex investigations. Her deep understanding of criminal judicial processes has proven invaluable in her pursuit of justice and integrity within the legal system.
Trina is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. After graduating from college, she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, and began her law enforcement career with the Department of Corrections. Shortly thereafter, Trina was hired by the Fulton County Solicitor General, where she began her first assignment as a criminal investigator. Her impressive tenure as an investigator in the Solicitor’s Office laid the foundation for her advancement to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, where she honed her skills in evidence collection, case preparation, and courtroom testimony.
In 2000, Trina began her 18-year tenure with the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office. In her final assignment before retirement, she served as a Deputy Chief Investigator, managing the day-to-day operations of investigators and paralegals.
After retiring from DeKalb County, Trina returned to the workforce by accepting a position with the National Football League (NFL). As the Atlanta Representative for NFL Security, she provided comprehensive security support for NFL venues and events, showcasing her capabilities in large-scale event security management. Additionally, Trina’s role as an NFL Security Representative involved assisting NFL counsel in thorough investigations concerning allegations of domestic violence and sexual assault involving players and league personnel, underscoring her expertise in handling high-stakes, sensitive investigations.
The call of public service led Trina back to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office as an inaugural member of the Conviction Integrity Unit, where she played a pivotal role in addressing claims of innocence, wrongful convictions, and sentencing disparities.
