Greg Thomas

Assistant Chief Greg Thomas began his law enforcement career as a police officer with the Savannah Police Department in Savannah, Georgia, in 1989. There, he served as a patrol officer before being promoted to the Criminal Investigations Unit. During his tenure with the Savannah Police Department, he was assigned to the Violent Crimes Unit investigating robberies and all deaths investigations (homicides, suicides, natural causes, and infant deaths). Thomas also investigated officer-involved shootings and criminal allegations by police officers. He was a member of the Violent Crime Task Force that consisted of Federal and local agencies.

In 2001, Thomas became a U.S. Regional Corporate Investigator for Airborne/DHL Express in Atlanta, Georgia. At Airborne/DHL Express, he was assigned to the Southeast Region tasked with investigating all crimes affecting the company and safeguarding the freight of the customers. He also served as a liaison to local law enforcement. Thomas was also responsible for ensuring that their facilities and daily operations where in complaint with the Transportation Security Administration.
In 2009, Thomas began his career with the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. He was assigned to the Public Integrity Unit as a Senior Investigator and was eventually promoted to Assistant Chief Investigator. The Public Integrity Unit was responsible for investigating officer-involved shootings, deaths in custody of law enforcement, and any criminal activity alleged by individual holding office of public trust. Thomas has also served on the dignitary protection team and completed extensive background checks on potential employees. In 2015, he was awarded the Special Unit Investigator of the Year. Assistant Chief Thomas is honored to protect and serve the citizens of the Fulton County.
