Health Benefits

Fulton County offers a competitive package of benefits for all eligible employees

GROUP INSURANCE BENEFITS 
Full-time employees are eligible for insurance coverage options at the first day of hire. Dependent coverage is available for spouses and children. Eligible children include those from birth to age 26.

Medical
Fulton County offers three medical plan options: 
1) The Consumer-Directed Health Plan with a Health Savings Account (HSA), administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of GA (BCBS). This is the “HSA Plan.”
a) Fulton County provides an annual contribution of $750 individual and $1500 family 
2) The Point-of-Service (POS) Plan, administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of GA (BCBS).   This is the “POS Plan.”
3) The HMO Plan, administered by Kaiser Permanente (Kaiser). This is the “HMO Plan.”

Dental
Fulton County offers two Aetna dental plans: Dental PPO (DPPO) and Dental HMO (DMO). The Dental PPO provides employees the choice of in or out of network benefits and preventative exams at 100%.  The Dental HMO provides employees the choice of in network benefits only and preventative exams/services at 100%.  

Vision
Fulton County offers vision coverage through EyeMed Vision Care. Employees can elect in-network or out-of-network vision providers. Coverage includes exams, glasses, contacts and reduced fees for laser correction. . If you choose a network provider (including leading optical retailers such as Lens Crafters®, Sears Optical and most Pearle Vision® locations), the plan pays greater benefits, as shown below.

Employee Term Life Insurance

Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)
Mandatory enrollment.   Fulton County pays 75% of the cost of coverage; employee pays 25%. The Basic Life benefit is $50,000. Employees will also receive $50,000 in AD&D coverage. The plan benefits reduce to $10,000 when you retire.

  • Employee Supplemental Life Insurance: Employees may choose additional term life insurance in increments of $25,000 up to a total coverage amount of $200,000. Subject to evidence of insurability for over $25,000
  • Life Insurance for Dependents: Employees may also choose to purchase term life insurance of $10,000 for dependent children and spouse.  Subject to evidence of insurability.

401(a)
Fulton County offers a 401(a) mandatory, fixed-rate retirement plan.  Employee participate by contributing 6% of their gross salary as a pre-tax payroll deduction starting with their first payroll. Fulton County contributes 8% of gross salary as matching funds.  The plan is administrated by Mass Mutual. 
The Employer Matching Contributions, Employer Basic Contributions and any Transfer amount (and earnings thereon) allocated to your account will vest according to the following schedule, which is based on your total number of

Regardless of the above schedule, you will automatically become 100% vested in the Transfer amounts, Employer Matching and Employer Basic Contribution portion of your account when you reach Normal Retirement Age, or be let go in a Reduction in Force, or become disabled or die while still an employee.  Normal Retirement Age is 65.
A Year of Service is a twelve consecutive month period during which you complete at least one hour of service with the County during each month. If you are gone from employment, you receive credit for any period of severance of less than 12 consecutive months. A period of severance generally means the continuous period of time you are not employed by the County beginning on the date you retire, quit, or are discharged. However, the non-vested portion of your account will be restored (unadjusted for gains or losses) if you are rehired before you have been gone for five consecutive years and you decide to make a Restoration Contribution.

Long Term Disability (LTD)
Provides 60% of an employee’s salary if you experience a long term disability resulting from accidental injury or illness.  This valuable coverage is provided by the County at no cost to the employee.  Coverage is automatic; enrollment is not necessary. Benefits begin after 180 days (6 months) of disability resulting from an accident or sickness (non-work related). 

Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

Employees can choose to set aside pretax dollars to pay for covered eligible medical, dependent care, parking and transit expenses through the various Flexible Spending Accounts offered.
