Fulton County Recognizes National Drinking Water Week

April 30, 2025
The week-long observance will recognize the vital role water plays in our daily lives.
Fulton County joins communities around the country in celebrating Drinking Water Week, May 4 - 10. The annual observance highlights the importance of safe drinking water and recognizes the dedication of the water professionals who keep it flowing around the clock in our communities.

The Fulton County Department of Public Works is marking Drinking Water Week by engaging the community in understanding the vital role of clean, safe water in daily life, including its importance for public health and environmental protection. Drinking Water Week also acknowledges and celebrates the essential water professionals whose expertise and commitment ensure the delivery of high-quality tap water every day.

National Drinking Water Week also marks the more than half century recognition of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) in the United States. The landmark law, which was passed by congress in 1974, is designed to safeguard the public by setting high drinking water quality standards. The SDWA provides a scientific framework to identify potential risks to drinking water and address them in partnership with states and water utilities.

In recognition of National Drinking Water Week, residents are invited to get an in-depth look at the process used to treat our drinking water. Public Works is hosting tours at the Tom Lowe Atlanta-Fulton County Water Treatment Plant, located at 9750 Spruill Road, Alpharetta, GA 30022 on Tuesday, May 6.
