The Fulton County Department of Senior Services in collaboration with the Atlanta Regional Commission launched the Georgia Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
The Georgia Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program provides eligible seniors aged 60 years and above with checks that can be exchanged for fresh, unprepared fruits, vegetables, and herbs from authorized farmers at designated market sites. The checks are issued on a first-come, first-served basis until all are distributed.
Through this partnership, Fulton County Senior Services and the Atlanta Regional Commission will be able to serve up to 450 senior residents by improving senior nutrition options and decreasing food insecurity.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the Fulton County Department of Senior Services to reach one of the most vulnerable groups in our county,” said Dr. Pamela Roshell, Fulton County Chief Operating Officer, Health, Human Services & Public Works. “We are proud to partner with the Atlanta Regional Commission to provide additional resources and added value for our senior residents.”
In an effort to increase the incentive further, the Georgia SFMNP promotes Georgia grown produce and individual local farmers. The Georgia SFMNP’s primary goal is to increase consumption of produce by promoting the expansion of market sites.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a drive-through and pickup strategy was developed to ensure full compliance with CDC guidelines. As such, the market sites will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the following locations:
• July 11, 2023 - H.J.C. Bowden Multipurpose Facility, 2885 Church St., East Point, GA 30344
