Tax Commissioners Warn Drivers to Renew May Tags Early

Statewide shutdown due to Georgia DRIVES upgrades begins May 20th
At a joint news conference hosted by Fulton County Tax Commissioner Arthur Ferdinand, Georgia Revenue Commissioner Lynne Riley and Tax Commissioners from Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb and Gwinnett Counties announced that computer upgrades in all of Georgia’s counties going on later in May 2019 will result in some services at local tag offices being temporarily unavailable. The action is being taken to accommodate the upgrade and transition to the new Georgia Driver Record and Integrated Vehicle Enterprise System (DRIVES). Drivers are being asked to renew tags by May 20, 2019 to avoid major issues.

This update and enhancement of the title and vehicle registration functions of the Department of Revenue and will utilize modern technology to streamline existing processes and enable more online services. The Georgia Department of Revenue is implementing the system upgrade during Memorial Day weekend and the new system will go live on May 28, 2019. For more information go to www.georgiadrives.com.

Fulton County Tax Commissioner Arthur Ferdinand says for residents of his county the upgrades will mean that kiosk and online renewals will not be available from May 21 through May 27. Fulton vehicle registration and title services will be down May 23 through May 27. More information is available at www.fultoncountytaxes.org.

In Gwinnett County, customer service kiosks will be out of operation from May 21 through May 26. Online service will be unavailable from May 23 through May 26 and title and registration service will be out from May 23 through May 27. To prepare for the transition to the Georgia DRIVES system, all 3 DeKalb County Tag Offices will be closed Thursday, May 23 through Tuesday, May 28, and will reopen on Wednesday, May 29 at 8 a.m. (Memorial Drive location will remain open for Property Tax services only). To accommodate taxpayer needs, the Memorial Drive Location will open Saturdays, May 4 and 18 only, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. DeKalb residents are also encouraged to visit the kiosks at any of the 5 Kroger locations for tag renewals. In Cobb County, tag and title services will be interrupted from May 21 through May 29. During that period, no kiosk or online renewal services will be available.
