Summer writing program works to foster growth in storytelling and creativity

Fulton County District 5 Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington, Jr. will host the third annual Write to Rise Young Writer’s Workshop and Competition in conjunction with Friends of Wolf Creek and Opus Cultural Lifestyle Magazine. Fifty slots in the workshop and subsequent competition are available on a first-come-first-served basis to middle and high school students in Fulton County. The Write to Rise Young Writer’s Workshop sessions will be held on the following Saturdays from 10a.m. to 3 p.m.: June 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 at the Wolf Creek Library, 3100 Enon Rd, Atlanta, GA 30349. Free lunch will be provided.

“The written word opens up so many possibilities for young people able to maximize their communications skills,” said District 5 Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington, Jr. “This workshop hopes to demonstrate to our young people what is possible when words on a page come alive.”

The Write to Rise Young Writer’s Workshop and Competition (WTR) seeks to assist young writers as they develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their own writing. The program also attempts to celebrate their successes as budding authors by guiding them in the development of building their portfolio and exposing them to the professional editorial and publishing process. The workshop will include authors, writers, and industry professionals who will help guide participants through a comprehensive preparation program focusing on personal and professional development as a writer. This is a cohort style workshop, with a number of intense conversations, writing exercises, and expectations for its students.

Participants are automatically entered into the WTR Competition, gaining a chance to win 1st, 2nd & 3rd place scholarships and prizes. The writing submissions will be accepted during the course of the workshops and the awards event will be held in August 2019.
