Judge Christopher S. Brasher Elected as Chief Judge of the Atlanta Judicial Circuit

The Chief Judge begins his term on February 1, 2020
The Honorable Christopher S. Brasher has been named Chief Judge of the Superior Court of Fulton County and the Atlanta Judicial Circuit. The Chief Judge is the highest judicial administrative officer in Fulton County and is essential to the successful operations of the Atlanta Judicial Circuit. It is the responsibility of the Chief Judge to ensure that the third branch of government operates proficiently and that the citizens of Fulton County -- and all other visitors to the courthouse -- receive equal access to justice and fairness when appearing before any Court in Fulton County. The Chief Judge also ensures that the administrative aspects of the Court run efficiently, including prompt disposition of cases, resource utilization, and issuance of administrative orders to properly direct the Courts’ day-to-day affairs. Judge Brasher states, “I thank my colleagues for placing trust in me to be the next Chief Judge. I pledge to serve our Court and our Community with professionalism, courtesy, and diligence. Many thanks to Judge McBurney for his service to our Court, our Community, and our State as Chief Judge. I will work hard to continue his legacy of progress.”
About the Honorable Christopher S. Brasher Judge Christopher S. Brasher has served on the bench of the Superior Court of Fulton County since 2006 and, most recently as the Chief Judge of the Family Division. Along with his presiding duties, Jurist Brasher served as chair of the Superior Court’s Operations Committee and as an active member of the Executive and Joint Governance Committees. Before his time on the bench, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Alcovy Judicial Circuit, and as the Senior Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Public Safety Section at the Georgia Attorney General’s Office. Judge Brasher also had a significant appellate practice, having had oral arguments on dozens of cases before the Georgia Supreme Court and Georgia Court of Appeals, arguments before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and an oral argument before the United States Supreme Court in 2000. Judge Brasher received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Furman University and earned his Juris Doctorate from the Georgia State University College of Law. Outgoing Chief Judge Robert C. I. McBurney had this to say about his successor: “It has been an honor and privilege – and quite an adventure – to serve as the Chief Judge of the Superior Court of Fulton County. Through partnerships with our sister courts, our County friends, and the public, we have made important progress in improving access to justice, increasing judicial transparency, and boosting efficiency. Our incoming Chief Judge, Chris Brasher, is the perfect person to extend these partnerships and to build on the work that has been done. I wish him well and thank everyone who has contributed to the successes of the past two years.”
