Yesterday afternoon, Fulton County District 1 Commissioner Liz Hausmann was one of five government leaders from around the nation participating in a call with President Joe Biden to talk about the impact of the United States Senate’s bipartisan support of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). If passed by both houses of Congress, the legislation would authorize $1 trillion in funding for roads and transportation improvements.

Commissioner Hausmann participated in the panel as part of her role as Chairman of the Transportation Steering Committee for the National Association of Counties (“NACo”), which represents counties across the United States on transportation issues and advocates their needs to the federal government.

“As Chairman of NACo’s Transportation Steering Committee, counties across the United States welcome the passage of this vital legislation that will breathe new life into America’s aging infrastructure,” says Fulton County District 1 Commissioner Liz Hausmann. “Here in Fulton County, the IIJA will potentially provide funding for transit projects and improvements that we have long planned for.” Additionally, funding for road and bridge improvements, airports, water treatment systems, and broadband is included in the infrastructure package. The Senate has approved IIJA on a bipartisan basis.

Other panel participants included Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Mayor Jerry Dyer of Fresno, CA, Jackson, MS Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba, and Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin, Jr. Commissioner Hausmann joined each of these leaders in discussions about the need for infrastructure investment in each of the communities they serve.
