Fulton County Youth Commission along with Top Atlanta Artists will Paint Earth Day Mural on Beltline

April 19, 2023
The Earth Day event will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The Fulton County Youth Commission (FCYC) will be collaborating with Fulton County Arts & Culture, B-Aware Foundation (BAF), B.A.M Creative, Sam Flax, Global Paint, and the Atlanta Beltline to commission a mural featuring Earth Day messaging of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle in high traffic areas on the Atlanta Beltline near 758-750 Rice Street, Atlanta, Georgia. A portion of this Earth Day mural will also feature an image of U.S. Ambassador and former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young, who has been a long-term advocate for sustainability and environmental justice.

The FCYC has joined forces with some of Atlanta’s leading artists and muralist who are volunteering their time and talent to create a meaningful Earth Day mural. This initiative has been made possible by supplies and assistance from the B-Aware Foundation, Global Paint and B.A.M Creative. The Earth Day event is part of an initiative entitled Affirmations Across Atlanta which is in partnership with the BAF, a grantee of the Fulton County Arts and Culture grant.

“Through the murals, our youth want to raise awareness of the need to protect the environment’s natural resources,” said Reginald Crossley, Fulton County Youth Commission Coordinator. “Our positive affirmations will encourage the community to become more environmentally conscious.”

In our modern age, youth are subject to continuous negative messaging through social media, TV, and radio. FCYC has taken on the task to combat that messaging with positive visuals and affirmations to include supporting climate and environmental causes. Someone on their way to school or work could use a positive, uplifting affirmation while in traffic or at a stop light. A youth with the weight of the world on their shoulders could use some words of encouragement while walking the halls at school, especially if he/she doesn’t hear these things at home.
