During her first year as District Attorney, Fani Willis established the office’s first ever Civil Rights Division. The prosecutors, investigators and staff of the unit are specialists in investigating, and if necessary, prosecuting, crimes related to the violation of civil rights by government officials. The unit is currently working through a large backlog of cases involving allegations of improper use of force by law enforcement officers.
