Fulton County Honors Seniors in Recognition of Older Americans Month

May 01, 2025
The Fulton County Board of Commissioners will proclaim May as Older Americans Month during its May 7, 2025, meeting as part of a yearly tradition of honoring the value and contributions of older Americans living in communities across the United States.

Every May, Fulton County joins the nation in recognizing Older Americans Month, and this year’s theme, “Flip the Script on Aging”, encourages a shift in how society views, discusses, and approaches aging. The theme calls on individuals and communities to challenge stereotypes, change the conversation, and dispel misconceptions surrounding aging.

“Older Americans Month provides an invaluable opportunity for Fulton County to celebrate the contributions of older adults in our community,” stated Dr. Pamela Roshell, Fulton County Chief Operating Officer. “The Fulton County Department of Senior Services remains committed to fostering a positive approach to aging, highlighting the many ways our seniors continue to stay active, engaged, and connected.”

As OAM officially kicks off on Thursday, May 1, 2025, Fulton County Senior Services will host a series of events and virtual programs throughout the County that showcase the talents and resilience of older adults. These activities will also provide opportunities for continued community engagement.

Fulton County will offer a mix of in-person and virtual events, ranging from formal dances to health fairs. Notable highlights include the Dogwood Center’s Senior Olympics, the OAM Walk for Wellness, and a Field Day where seniors can explore fitness programs and healthy living options while staying physically active. Additional events will include an Evening of the Arts, a Sneaker Ball, a Hapeville Concert, Mother’s Day celebrations, and programs focused on both mental and physical wellness.

“This May, as we host 35 celebratory events throughout our senior facilities and centers across Fulton County, we proudly embrace the 2025 theme, “Flip the Script on Aging,” stated Ladisa Onyiliogwu, Director. “Our older adults are demonstrating resilience, creativity, and purpose at every stage of life. Whether through fitness, wellness initiatives, or arts and culture, these events showcase the continued value, strength, and vitality of our senior community.”

Fulton County remains dedicated to supporting older Americans through its services, programs, and partnerships. The County also recognizes the importance of the Older Americans Act, the Administration on Aging, and the need for policies that uplift individuals across generations, enriching the lives of seniors today and in the future.
