Happening in Fulton: Fulton County’s Mosquito Control Program Protects Residents from West Nile Virus

August 22, 2025

Fulton County has a program in place for mosquito mitigation and protection from the Western Nile Virus. Hear more from Environmental Health Director Dr. Brandon Leftwich. What we do is set out traps. We also make sure that we test these mosquitoes and make sure they're not spreading the virus. The spray is completely safe; it's at an amount where it's not harmful to people, pets, or even pollinators such as beehives and things of that nature. So if you're outdoors during dusk and dawn, you want to make sure that you're wearing protective clothing when you're outside. You also want to make sure that your doors in your homes are secured. Make sure that you dump things that may be holding water around your yards as well. Make sure that you wear the proper mosquito repellent, something that's called DEET that's inside of that repellent. That will also help lessen the chance of you getting bit by mosquitoes.
