Fulton County is proclaiming September as “Recovery Month” to increase awareness and understanding of mental health and substance use disorders. Across the country, National Recovery Month is observed every September to recognize and address the personal challenges associated with addiction and its harmful impacts.
For the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD), the observance is also a time to celebrate the continued success of those who have achieved recovery from alcohol and substance addiction and mental illness.
“In Fulton County, one of the goals is to make sure that those in need of assistance understand that help is here,” said Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Director, LaTrina Foster. “Mental health and substance use disorders can be treated and there are many pathways to recovery. Recovery Month celebrates the reality that prevention works, treatment is effective, and that people can and do recover.”
Recovery resources include opioid and addiction services and the Behavioral Health Crisis Center. Throughout the month of September, BHDD will be recognized for its work with the presentation of a proclamation and a community event. To learn more about BHDD or how to seek help, visit
