Fulton County recognizes May as Mental Health Awareness Month

Fulton County Recognizes Mental Health Awareness Month

May 13, 2026
Fulton County Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities encourages residents to seek support, reduce stigma, and help create “More Good Days, Together”

Fulton County joins communities across the nation in recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and connecting individuals and families to resources that support mental, emotional, and behavioral well-being.

This year’s national theme, “More Good Days, Together,” encourages residents to reflect on what mental wellness means in their everyday lives and reminds the community that support, connection, and access to care can help make more good days possible.

Fulton County Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities, known as BHDD, provides programs and services designed to support residents across all stages of life. In 2026, Fulton County will invest $23 million in mental health care to provide free, high-quality counseling services for uninsured children and adults across the county. Fulton County also offers free and low-cost mental health services for uninsured and underinsured children and adults in communities across Fulton County, helping ensure residents have access to behavioral health support regardless of their ability to pay.

"Mental Health Awareness Month is an opportunity for us to remind residents that they are not alone and that help is available,” said LaTrina Foster, Director of Fulton County Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities. Mental health is part of our overall health, and every person deserves access to care, support, and community. Through Fulton County BHDD, we are committed to meeting residents where they are, reducing stigma, and helping individuals and families take meaningful steps toward wellness.”

Throughout the month of May, Fulton County BHDD will continue highlighting mental health resources, community-based support, and opportunities for residents to learn more about available services. The department also encourages residents to check in with themselves, loved ones, coworkers, and neighbors, and to seek help early when additional support is needed.

“Mental wellness looks different for everyone,” said Foster. “For some, a good day may mean feeling connected. For others, it may mean having access to counseling, crisis support, peer support, or
simply knowing where to turn. Our goal is to make sure Fulton County residents know that support is within reach.”
