About the Americans with Disabilities Act

Signed into law in 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in employment, education, transportation, and public accommodations. The landmark legislation continues to serve as a foundation for ensuring equal access and opportunity for millions of Americans.

Fulton County's Department of Diversity and Civil Rights Compliance supports these protections by promoting equal access to County programs, services, activities, and facilities. Through its commitment to ADA compliance, DCRC works to ensure individuals with disabilities receive reasonable accommodations, effective communication, accessible formats, adaptive equipment, Braille materials, Closed Captioning (CC), Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) services, and sign language interpreting (SLI) services.

As DCRC commemorates ADA36, the department reaffirms its commitment to advancing accessibility through education, awareness, engagement, and ongoing efforts that help create a more inclusive Fulton County for employees, residents, and visitors alike.
