Fulton County Recognizes National Preparedness Month

AFCEMA encourages residents to take steps now to prepare for emergencies and disasters throughout September
In recognition of National Preparedness Month, the Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency (AFCEMA), in partnership with the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), is encouraging residents to prepare for emergencies and disasters before they occur.
This year’s theme, “American Stand Ready,” focuses on the importance of individual, family, and community preparedness. AFCEMA joins public, private, and nonprofit organizations nationwide in raising awareness and encouraging residents to take practical steps to prepare for both natural and man-made emergencies.
“Disasters can change our lives quickly, which is why it is important for everyone to be prepared,” said AFCEMA Director Joseph Barasoain. “National Preparedness Month is an opportunity to make sure we are taking the necessary steps to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities.”
Throughout the month, AFCEMA will highlight the following preparedness topics:
Americans stand ready to uphold our patriotic duty: When individuals are prepared and self-reliant, they can help support the work of first responders during emergencies.
Americans stand ready to protect our family and friends: Knowing how to prepare and respond can help keep loved ones safe when emergencies occur.
Americans stand ready to help our communities: Taking a proactive approach to preparedness strengthens communities and contributes to the nation’s overall resilience.
