Fulton County Solar Program
Fulton County has been producing electricity with solar panels on county building roofs since 2021. Currently, the county has solar panels on 42 buildings, with additional buildings planned. Fulton County’s goal is to have 25% of its electricity generated by solar panels by 2030.
Fulton County was able to install solar panels at no upfront cost through a financial arrangement called a Solar Energy Procurement Agreement, also known as a Power Purchase Agreement. A third-party installs, owns, and operates the panels, and Fulton County pays for the electricity produced as if we were paying an electric utility. The best part? On average, the price we pay for solar is less than the price we pay for regular electricity.
To date, the county has saved $240,000 on electricity bills and is saving approximately $10,000 each month. The lifetime kWh savings have reduced emissions by 5.8 million pounds of CO2e, which is equivalent to 2,644 acres of forest and 615 cars driven for one year.
The photo below shows the solar panels that were installed on the Dorothy Benson Multi-Purpose Senior Center in 2025.

For more information about the solar generation at each building, please refer to the graphs below. The large increase in generation in 2025 is due to 32 buildings adding solar that year. The map shows the locations of current county solar installations.
