Chairman Pitts to Encourage HIV Testing So Church Members Can Know Their Status

December 26, 2019
With another calendar year coming to an end, Fulton County is reaching out to church communities encouraging members to begin a new year with the knowledge of their HIV status. As part of Fulton County’s ongoing efforts to battle the spread of HIV and AIDS, Fulton County Commission Chairman Robb Pitts will speak to members at Enon Church to encourage them to know their HIV status at the start of 2020. Enon is the first Fulton County church to both take on this initiative to discuss the disease from the pulpit and set up Fulton County mobile HIV testing facilities on church premises. The County’s mobile testing unit will be at the church to provide both testing for and information about HIV. Metro Atlanta leads the nation in the rate of African-American men infected with HIV and second in the nation for overall cases of HIV. One in seven African-Americans infected with HIV is unaware of their status.
