Fulton County to Launch ‘Operation Green Light’ in Support of Local Veterans

The Fulton County Government Center will illuminate in green on Veterans Day.

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners announced that the Government Center will be illuminated green from Monday, November 7 through Veterans Day, Friday, November 11, as part of Operation Green Light.

Fulton County working in conjunction with the National Association of Counties (NACo), and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers will unveil the new initiative to honor all Veterans during a special ceremony on Monday, November 7 at 5:30 p.m. in the Atrium of the Government Center at 141 Pryor Street in downtown Atlanta.

The mission of Operation Green Light is to show support for all veterans, raise awareness about the challenges faced by many veterans, and to highlight the resources that are available at the county, state, and federal level to assist veterans and their families. Fulton County Vice Chairman Liz Hausmann will sponsor a proclamation recognizing veterans during the November 2 Board of Commissioners meeting. She says it will be a time to honor all the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

“By shining the green light, we’re expressing our profound gratitude for the sacrifices and contributions our veterans and their families made on the battlefield, at home,” said Vice Chair Hausmann. “We can all agree that those individuals who risked, and sacrificed their lives fighting to protect our country deserve our support. I encourage everyone to join with us in displaying a green light for our veterans and their families.”

Residents are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends. By shining a green light, we are letting our veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.
