As a leading public funder of the arts in Metro Atlanta, the Fulton County Department of Arts & Culture is pleased to announce that they will serve as a proud sponsor of the Dance/USA 2023 Conference, June 13-16 in Atlanta, Georgia.

As a part of their strategic partnership, Fulton County Arts & Culture and Dance/USA will celebrate the official kickoff of the Dance/USA 2023 Conference on Monday, June 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Atrium of the Government Center at 141 Pryor Street in downtown Atlanta.

During the June 12 event, Arts & Culture will recognize the achievements of Dance/USA’s 2023 Champion Award local honorees: Douglas Scott, Artistic/Executive Director, Full Radius Dance and Nena Gilreath and Waverly T. Lucas, II, Co-Founding Directors, Ballethnic Dance Company. They will also highlight Fulton County’s dance program: 50 Years of Hip Hop Dance, and feature a riveting dance performance by Eshe Gaither from Arrested Development. To close out the program, Arts & Culture will host a Network & Mingle session designed to build connections across the art and dance communities.

“Fulton County Commissioners and the Department of Arts & Culture are leading the way when it comes to supporting all the art forms in the state of Georgia,” said Fulton County Arts & Culture Director David Manuel. “We are excited to bring Dance/USA to Fulton County and all of its residents.”

“We are thrilled to bring the Dance/USA 2023 Conference to Atlanta,” said Kellee Edusei, Executive Director, Dance/USA. “Our Atlanta Host Committee has been an enormous asset and we are grateful to them for their work on the Conference. We look forward to convening creative workers from across the country this June 13-16 for a joyous reunion. Conference attendees will hear from leaders in the national dance ecosystem, enjoy performances by Atlanta area dance artists, celebrate our 2023 Honorees who have made vital contributions to the dance field, and engage in meaningful discussions about the future of our field.”

Dance/USA is the national service organization for dance, serving a broad cross-section of the dance field. Established in 1982, Dance/USA champions an inclusive and equitable dance field by leading, convening, advocating, and supporting individuals and organizations.

“South Arts is committed to connecting artists and arts professionals to resources, and we are thrilled to welcome the participants of the Dance/USA 2023 Conference to our home state of Georgia,” said Nikki Estes, Director, Presenting & Touring, South Arts. “We know that the conference’s professional development sessions, networking opportunities, and dance performances will be impactful and inspiring. And of course, honoring and celebrating the extraordinary leaders in the dance field is the perfect way to kick-off the conference. This year's honorees include Virginia Johnson, Judy Tyrus, and Atlantans Douglas Scott, Nena Gilreath, and Waverly T. Lucas. We can’t wait for the local and national dance community to come together this June.”

Fulton County continues to be the largest public funder in Georgia and is committed to providing annual support to stabilize the local dance community for the last 40-plus years. Keeping this in mind, Fulton County is thrilled to be at the intersection where creative leaders, dancers, and agents can be recognized for their talents and contributions in the dance field.

“I am excited to have this unparalleled opportunity to showcase Fulton County dance artists and companies to a national audience in two ways - integrated into the Conference's daily schedule and at the Modern Atlanta Dance (MAD) Festival,” stated Douglas Scott, Artistic/Executive Director, Full Radius Dance. “There is no better way to show visitors our passion, soul, and artistry.”
